What Is a Smart Home? A smart home is a residence equipped with devices that connect to a single hub or gateway that allows them to communicate with each other and automate tasks that you usually handle manually, like setting the temperature and turning lights on and off. In your Pepco Smart Home Kit, you will receive easy-to-install smart devices like plugs, motion sensors, and entry sensors to help you control and monitor energy usage. These devices are all controlled through the Pepco Smart Home Gateway, also included in the kit, helping your home run more efficiently. It also adapts your home to Peak Savings Days without any additional effort on your part. Why Participate? Pepco residential customers who: Reside in a single-family residential home or individually metered townhouse or condominium with either a heat pump or central air conditioning. Have an ethernet internet connection available in the home. Have a secure home Wi-Fi connection. Own an iOS or Android mobile device. What’s in the Smart Home Kit? Pepco’s Smart Home Kit has all the essentials you need to make your residence a smart home: 1 Gateway Hub 3 Connected Motion Sensors 2 Connected Smart Plugs 2 Connected Entry Sensors About the Smart Home devices: The Gateway hub connects to your home internet using the provided ethernet cable. As the centralized hub for all your Pepco Smart Home devices, it allows you to control and monitor your smart home from any location via your iOS or Android device. Motion Sensors detect motion in your home using infrared technology. They help your Pepco Smart Home detect occupancy, so you can set the motion sensor up to monitor, control, and automate your home’s energy usage to adjust to the electric demand during Peak Savings Days. Devices mount to a wall or ceiling, or can stand on a shelf. Smart Plugs control and monitor household electronics like your entertainment center, small kitchen appliances, and office equipment via your mobile device. You can schedule your plugs to turn on and off at certain times and monitor how much energy certain appliances use. This can help identify which household items might be consuming the most energy. Can be controlled through app or voice app. Entry Sensors monitor your doors and windows to ensure you avoid accidentally wasting energy by having a door or window open while your heat or air conditioning is on. If a window or door is opened or closed during active heating or cooling of your home, these sensors will send an alert to your phone.
